Ryan Adams, Jacksonville City Nights

The rate Ryan Adams puts out records is like being invited to too many weddings: they often end up feeling cheap and common. Adams' latest release, Jacksonville City Nights, is one of three scheduled this year, preceded by Cold Roses, and will be followed by 29, due out in December. Note to Adams: When even the die-hards are rolling their eyes, it may be time to switch the game plan. Still, Jacksonville delivers a satisfying, honkey-tonk punch of Adams-brand melancholy, a fair distance from the whimsy of his Whiskeytown days.
